Mac's 2000 Xtreme Split with Amherst Knights

The Amherst Knights 00 AA team traveled to Washington, DC to take on the Xtreme 2000s in what would be a home and home series.  The Xtreme are scheduled to travel to Buffalo in two weekends, yes, the weekend before Christmas to face them in their barn.

The Xtreme took the first game of the two rather easily and only allowed one blip on the radar en route to a 7-1 victory.  The coach actually started moving kids around after two periods when the score was 6-1.

In the Sunday rematch, the Knights came on a bit stronger and more physically and pulled out to a stunning 2-0 lead.  It wasn't that the Xtreme weren't getting the lion share of the scoring chances, we just were putting them home.  They managed to squeak a couple past Watier with some screens and just persistence.  With 0:53 left on the clock, the Xtreme got an offensive zone faceoff and pulled Watier for an extra attacker.  We couldn't maintain control and gave up an empty net breakaway.  The Knights scored and took a 3-1 lead.  The Xtreme managed a bittersweet goal by Mac Wiseman with 7.3 seconds left on a great individual effort, but it just wasn't enough.  We outshot them 28-13 in the 3-2 loss.  Just one of those games.

We'll see what occurs in the rematch on Dec 18-19.

Aidan's 2002 Xtreme Win Can Am Challenge Cup in Lake Placid

Aidan and his 2002 Ashburn Xtreme squad took home the Can Am Challenge Cup this weekend.

They competed against 4 teams from the New England area.  The Stamford Sharks gave them the best run for their money.  In the preliminary game on the 80s Rink on Friday, Stamford posted a 2-0 lead in the game before succumbing to the Xtreme 4-2.  These teams would square off again in the championship final on Sunday morning.

The final was intense right out of the gate as the Sharks attempted to make another early statement to the Xtreme.  The Sharks managed to manufacture an early breakaway but it was turned aside by goalie Aidan Rudolf.  The trailing defenseman that collected it and cleared it was able to get it to Matthew Price.  In what would eventually be the game-winning goal, Matthew went end to end off the clearing pass and scored to give the Xtreme a 1-0 lead.  David Hanny, Aidan's best buddy and line mate, would eventually add some late insurance to give the Xtreme the ending 2-0 score.
